After winning a competition with 2 others, I created this mural design. They really liked my illustration style, so they asked if I could use what I had already created (the woodland design), but turn it into a sea theme instead, as they already have some sea themed illustrations around the ward. So along with working closely with Emma - the art director at Frimley Park - the 2 others and I worked together to make a cohesive colour palette, taking some colours from each of our original designs, edited our own designs where needed and also created our own portholes to use somewhere around the ward. I then put together a piece for the corridor leading to the Children's Waiting room that helps direct parents and children where to go, using different assets from each other's designs to lead the way. I love how this design came out and I am so happy with how it looks in the ward.
My work has been put up in the Children's A&E waiting room and corridor and the Paediatric Physio waiting area and clinic rooms. When Emma went to visit as they were installing my design she informed us that "already there is such an impact for our young patients, with a little girl counting the fish straight away. The team are beyond happy and say the room has such a purpose now and makes waiting just that little better and calmer." When I got the chance to visit my work I also got the chance to meet some of the staff that work on these wards and each one were so grateful for what I have created, informing me with how much impact the designs have had on their young patients.
